SPA MIST TREATMENT @ FOURTEENJAY

(read the original REFINERY29 article here)

"After a brutal, dry winter, my hair can use all the help it can get. I’ll be treating it (and myself) to a Spa Mist experience at my favorite salon in New York, Fourteenjay. It’s like a steam room for your hair. During the treatment, they’ll place a cap over the head, which will be attached to a machine that pushes out a mist that helps open up hair follicles (and that just feels incredibly gentle on the scalp). You can choose between protein, scalp, and moisture treatments. I tried the moisture one last time, and my hair certainly thanked me. 'With everything we are doing to our hair all the time — blow-drying, swimming, sunshine, hair coloring — the cuticle of our hair, which is the doorway to the cortex, or the thickest layer of our hair, is getting mistreated every day,' says David Adams, a trichologist and colorist at Fourteenjay. 'What happens then is we have dry, porous, frizzy, or dull-looking hair… Anything that’s dry needs moisture.' And hair that is damaged, fine, brittle, or breaking needs protein to make it stronger. And this can help with those issues. At least, I found this to be true. While some such treatments will weigh the hair down and make it feel oily, after some time with the Takara Belmont Spa Mist machine, my hair felt light and still had body and shine. The whole process was also just incredibly relaxing. The total opposite of the "beauty is pain" philosophy. You can try one of the treatments as an add-on to an existing appointment at Fourteenjay for $60, or get a stand-alone treatment and blowdry for $130."
